Old St. Andrew's Concert Series - 2011-2012

OSA is pleased to announce a new Concert Series for 2011-2012. Music is central to the life and spirit of OSA and this new series adds significantly to our commitment to bring and make wonderful music for parishioners and guests alike. Please see below for our offerings during the coming year and the cost for tickets to some offerings.

1. Tuesday, October 25 at 6:30 p.m., EvenSong & Harvest Supper. The OSA choir, soloists, organ and guest flutist Mary Jane Sullivan perform this traditional Anglican service of prayers, chants, psalms, canticles, and hymns. After the service, please stay for a robust harvest supper and excellent company. Free.

2. Friday, November 4 at 7:30 pm, Alta Wind Trio, one of New England’s premier Renaissance chamber groups. We had the pleasure of hearing one of Alta’s members, Peter Braunfield, play the recorder at last fall’s Evensong service. Alta performs often at Trinity Episcopal Church in Hartford and each member also has very impressive solo performing credits. We are honored to welcome them to OSA. Tickets $10.

3. Saturday, December 24 at 7:30 p.m., Christmas Eve Service or Music & Worship. A string trio joins the OSA choir, soloists, and organ to perform extraordinary Christmas music for ½ hour before and during the Holy Eucharist. Free.

4. Tuesday, February 21 at 6:30 p.m., EvenSong & Pancake Supper compliments the fall offering with a different twist to the service but the same wonderful fellowship in anticipation of Ash Wednesday and Lent. Free.

5. Saturday, March 10 at 7:30 pm, The Jen Allen Trio. Jen Allen is an internationally known jazz pianist who just released her first CD.  She is a product of the Jackie McClean Jazz Institute of the Hartt School of Music and performs regularly throughout New England. She will be accompanied by her trio and together they will play a mixture of well-known jazz standards and original pieces. Copies of Jen’s CD, Pieces of Myself will be available for sale at the performance.

6. Sunday, April 22 at 3 pm, OSA will present one of the winners of the CT State Music Teacher's Association Piano Competition. This competition attracts the best young pianists from around the state. The talented young winner will perform on our awesome Yamaha Baby Grand. Not to be missed!

7. Easter Sunday is always extraordinary. The choir, along with special accompanying musicians, brings the joy of Easter to OSA. Stunning solos, riveting anthems, familiar Easter hymns make for a worship experience to remember and a spiritual uplifting faithful to the celebration.

You will receive a ticket for each of the three ticketed performances. Your name will also be listed in the program as a “Friend of OSA Music”. This network of music supporters helps our Concert Series become self sustaining.
