Old St. Andrew's ~ A Church on Mission

At Old St. Andrew's, we are a church on mission! Although the parish is located in a pastoral setting, it's not enough for us to come to worship on Sundays and then just go home. Our commitment is to take the spirit of Christ back into our neighborhoods and the greater community.

You’ll find we do this in myriad ways, personally and as a parish. For example, individual parishioners tutor children after school, volunteer at animal shelters, and coach soccer. In all things, you'll see us treating all people with respect and dignity.

You will also see us reach out to Bloomfield and the into the world in significant ways. Last year, the parish held a fund raiser to benefit the Carmen Arace Middle School music program in Bloomfield. Recently, we also supported the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Kids for Paws (an animal rescue program run by kids in Simsbury) and the NicICU at UConn.

Viet-Nam

We build houses in Haiti and Viet Nam, underwrite the lunch program andprovidescholarships at L’Ecole Le Bon Samaritain, and provide backpacks, food, clothing and household goods for the Hispanic Mission in Hartford. This fall our Church School children are sponsoring Alex's Lemonade Stand to raise money for cancer research.

In the past, OSA parishioners brought together children from Northern Ireland, both Roman Catholic and Protestant, here at the church. We have also helped resettle refugee families in the town of Bloomfield.

Several years ago, parishioners at Old St. Andrew's affirmed our commitment by tithing (pledging) to Mission & Outreach 10% of the funds raised for our Enhancement Program. With this tithe, we significantly enhanced the lives of our neighbors.

HaitiWhile we constantly seek new opportunities to serve the community, we continue our long-term commitment to L’Ecole Bon Samaritain, a Haitian school in Carrefour, just outside Port-au-Prince. Several parishioners have travelled to Haiti and we will again.

At Old St. Andrew’s, you have many opportunities to volunteer time, talent and treasure on behalf of our neighbors. These are usually posted on the Parish Hall bulletin board, in Sunday bulletin, and the Parish Crier. Please feel free to speak to any parishioner about what we do in this ministry. Or, please e-mail us at osa@oldstandrews.net.

We are the Body of Christ in the world.
