Outreach at Old St. Andrew's

We are a Church on Mission. And so, outreach at OSA happens every day and in many forms.

Most especially our outreach is personal, individuals being the Body of Christ in theworld. It is the kindnesses that we incorporate into who it is we are. For example, how do we treat the checkout person at Stop & Shop. Where and when do we express our thanks for all that we have? Participation in after school literacy programs, scouting, Habitat for Humanity, Christmas in April, and more. Always at the heart of our outreach is the answer to this question: Would you rather be right or loving?

OSA Outreach Projects

As a community, OSA does a lot both locally and internationally. For over twelve years we have supported a small school in Haiti, l'École le Bon Samaritain. Many parishioners provide $250 scholarships for children at the school. We have underwritten their lunch program, provided an electrical system, water purification, school supplies and much, much more.

In the spring of 2009, OSA put on a musical fund raiser in support of the music program at Carmen Arace Middle School in Bloomfield. The $2,000 we contributed helps cover costs for children who cannot afford the choir uniform, travel to away performances, or lunch money on choir trips.

The list of community and outreach activities is long: building houses in Viet Nam, providing food, furniture and clothing to the Hispanic Mission in Hartford, paying for a new roof on the Catholic Worker House in Hartford's north end, to name a few. Recently, we gave gifts baskets to the staff at Seabury Retirement Community in thanksgiving for their exceptional service to residents after a fire at the facility.

In addition to the above, the Episcopal Church Women (ECW) are extremely active and generous. Their yearly Christmas Bazaar raises money for myriad projects, like support for an orphanage in Viet Nam for victims of agent orange. They also sponsor a huge Tag Sale every couple of years, an occasional auction, the United Thank Offering and White Envelope collections.

At OSA, we are a Church on Mission, being the Body of Christ in the world!
