So, what’s happening; what’s important right now?

·      Brittany Spears apologized for attacking the paparazzi w/ an umbrella last February

·      Scooter Libby, who missed out on 30 months in the hoosegow, paid his $250K fine

·      A dastardly terrorist plot failed in the UK

·      A 10 year old and a 12 year old tried to kidnap a baby and demand $200K ransom

·      An 11 year old was cited for DUI after a high-speed car chase last Tuesday

·      Texas is floating

·      Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Idaho, & Montana are roasting

·      Microsoft will spend $1B to fix Xbox video games

·      The war continues to kill and maim scores every month, including many American soldiers

·      A mom and three kids died on the 4th of July when her car accidentally rolled into a lake

·      My college roommate, Roger Cox, died of lung cancer this week

·      Hummingbirds seem to be avoiding my feeder this year

·      The 2007 New England Region slug convention was held on my dahlias this week

 

·      Utah Jazz star Derek Fisher quit the NBA team to care for his year old daughter who has retinoblastoma because her health is his 1st priority

·      Al Gore and friends entertained 2.5 billion people world-wide yesterday to raise awareness about global warming

·      Apple sold over 800K new iPhones in the first week

·      The Church Missions Publishing Company gave away $30K to publish materials that promote the Gospel

·      We have a new bishop

·      Greenland really was once green…500,000 years ago

·      NASA will install a new $19M toilet on the Int’l Space Station, finally giving astronauts a modicum of privacy & comfort

·      Karen has been on vacation

·      We have almost enough money to replace all our light bulbs

·      Furniture for the library is on order

·      Luke tells us the kingdom of God is near

·      And … you are here this morning

So, what is important? What’s really important? What’s important to you?

I’m spending a lot of my summer thinking about this question. I think it’s something worth musing about.

In the blather and barrage of information that attacks us daily, we can often forget what really matters to us.

Do you remember this morning’s Collect? “O God, you have taught us to keep all your commandments by loving you and our neighbor: Grant us the grace of your Holy Spirit…”
