Music for Special Services
During the year, Old St. Andrew's has many extraordinary music Sundays. Some we anticipate and schedule on our calendar. Please see below for the offerings for 2011-2012 (September-June). ALL, of course, are welcome at all of our celebrations and services.
Tuesday, October 25 at 6:30 p.m., EvenSong & Harvest Supper. The OSA choir, soloists, organ and guest flutist Mary Jane Sullivan perform this traditional Anglican service of prayers, chants, psalms, canticles, and hymns. After the service, please stay for a robust harvest supper and excellent company.
St. Andrew Sunday, celebrated Sunday, November 20th this year, is always a special day at OSA. We accent the service with bagpipe music adding to our Scottish heritage and dear Andrew's role as patron Saint of Scotland.
On Sunday afternoon, December 11, we gather for a round of Christmas Caroling in the midst of our beautiful, somewhat quirky, homemade crèche. Following, all are invited inside to share in hot mulled cider, sweets, good company, and usually more singing. The whole community is welcome.
A Service of Nine Lessons & Carols, Sunday, December 18 at 10 a.m. This traditional Anglican service is a wonderful dose of Christmas music interspersed with Scriptural readings beginning with Genesis and going through the Nativity. The choir selections are magnificent and the congregation joins in for the hymns.
Saturday, December 24 at 7:30 p.m. is our Christmas Eve Service - Music & Worship. A string trio joins the OSA choir, soloists, and organ to perform extraordinary Christmas music for ½ hour before worship and, of course, during the Holy Eucharist.
Shrove Tuesday, February 21 at 6:30 p.m., EvenSong & Pancake Supper compliments the fall EvenSong & Harvest Supper with a different twist to the service but the same wonderful fellowship in anticipation of Ash Wednesday and Lent. Then, be sure to stay to clean our larder of pancakes, syrup, butter, bacon, sausage
Easter Sunday is always extraordinary. The choir, along with special accompanying musicians, brings the joy of Easter to OSA. Stunning solos, riveting anthems, familiar Easter hymns make for a worship experience to remember and a spiritual uplifting faithful to the celebration.
